MOCHILA INTRODUCES MOCHILA ESPANOL,THE SPANISH-LANGUAGE EDITION OF THEIR ONLINE CONTENT MARKETPLACE, AT IAPA GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN MEXICO CITY
IAPA Host, El Universal, Signs On As Member
New York City, NY (September 25, 2006) –Mochila (www.mochila.com), the first global online marketplace for print and photo content, is unveiling its Spanish language edition at the 62nd annual Inter-American Press Association (IAPA) general assembly in Mexico City, September 29 – October 3, 2006, it was announced today by CEO Keith McAllister.
Mochila Spanish edition will launch with Mexico’s largest newspaper, El Universal. Launched in 1916, El Universal has been reaching more than 300,000 readers for 90 years.
“Mochila Español is a response to the enormous global demand for the Mochila marketplace from Spanish-language media,” said McAllister. “Mochila Español is another example of Mochila’s ability to create unique and powerful products for publishers of all types.”
Two more newspapers groups who have signed on as Mochila Español launch members are U.S. based, Spanish language media company Rumbo and Excelsior newspaper. Rumbo, published by Meximerica Media, is a network of Spanish-language newspapers targeting Houston, San Antonio and the Rio Grande Valley with a weekly circulation is 410,000. Excelsior newspaper, owned by Freedom Communications, is a weekly newspaper published in Southern California. Through Mochila Español these and other US-based Spanish-language publishers will have unique access to content from the native countries of many of their readers.
The Spanish edition of Mochila will allow members to upload and search both Spanish and English content. It will also enable U.S. based Spanish language media to efficiently acquire content from the home countries of their readers.
Mochila’s expansion into Latin America also includes the signing of Editora Abril S/A, one of the biggest communication groups in the region. Abril Publishing reaches over 26 millions readers through publishing seven of the ten most widely read magazines in the country.
In addition, Mochila is already working with top media brands which will also offer content to Spanish members, such as Hachette Filipacchi Media US, The Associated Press, MSNBC Interactive News, Hearst Magazines and Metro International as well as category leaders, such as Entrepreneur, Inc. and Working Mother Media.
By creating the first online system that facilitates commercial content syndication in an easy peer-to-peer fashion, Mochila brings new revenue to content providers such as magazines, newspapers, websites and wire services, while offering media outlets of all types the ability to buy the highest-quality feature content a la carte and on-demand.
